Professional identity among student teachers of physical education : the role of physicality

In this study, we investigate the role of physicality in the professional identities of physical education (PE) student teachers. Twenty PE student teachers participated in semi-structured interviews during their final teaching practice. Data were analysed using qualitative thematic analysis (Braun and Clarke 2006) and typologies (Patton 2002). The results showed substantial diversity in the student teachers’ conceptions of physicality and the ways these conceptions were embedded in their developing professional identities. To support school improvement, understanding the mechanisms that enhance teachers’ engagement in professional learning activities within schools over time is paramount. The purpose of this three-wave longitudinal study is to examine the role of workplace conditions (school leaders’ vision building and teams’ shared goals), in supporting teachers’ engagement in information sharing over time. In recent decades, increased diversity and migration have challenged school staff members’ ways of working. This study aimed to identify the challenges faced by Finnish school staff in supporting students with migrant backgrounds, and to elaborate on how they enact professional agency toward these challenges. Charity gardens are a proposal for social intervention, which may form part of social and labour active inclusion policies, within the structure of the territory, generating a social and economic system. This study examines the model of French garden created in Réseau Cocagne and compares this with the analysis of similar business cases found in Spain. The paper focuses on the importance of using traditional agricultural spaces in peri-urban areas, through being areas where several factors and functions converge, capable of generating social, economic and environmental wealth helping to promote social inclusion.
